Description

Songs that Won the War.

The portrayal of three remarkable women who, through their unforgettable songs, their glamour and unique talents played a vital role in the serious business of maintaining public morale during the darkest days of World War II.

Though worlds apart these women - Gracie Fields was born above her Grandmother’s fish and chip shop in Rochdale Lancashire; Marlene Dietrich was born in Berlin the daughter of a Prussian Police Officer; and Carmen Miranda born in Portugal and taken to Brazil by her Parents when she was an infant - were inextricably linked in bringing hope and cheer to millions of people by uplifting their flagging spirits, and in so doing, contributing mightily to the downfall of Hitler.

In a bravura performance capturing the mood and the spirit of the time, Marion Martin brings the personalities, the glamour, the songs and the voices, of ‘Our Gracie’, ‘Marlene’, and the ‘Brazilian Bombshell’ uncannily to life.
