Description

The Leafy Sea Dragon Festival is a major regional festival that celebrates the arts, culture, community and environment and contributes to the future health and viability of the Leafy Sea Dragon and its habitat. The 2009 Festival will deliver ten days of festivities focusing on the arts and culture of the Yankalilla area and South Australia, with significant emphasis on local artists, on youth expression, and our extraordinary natural environment.

The Festival is biennial and is managed by the Leafy Sea Dragon Festival Association Incorporated. The Festival concentrates many of its activities in the two main towns of Normanville and Yankalilla, but activities will take place at Myponga, Delamere, Inman Valley, Cape Jervis, Second Valley, Rapid Bay and Parawa as well.

Activities planned for 2009 will include many visual arts exhibitions; district wide artist's studio trail; street parties; a wide range of music concerts; dining experiences; youth activities focused around the newly built Youth Centre; community and youth art workshops; environmental talks and walks; and environmental action activities. For a full and up to date program visit our website.

Over 7000 people attended the first Leafy Sea Dragon Festival in 2005. With over 10,000 people attending the second festival in 2007. Of these approximately 3000 were visitors to our area. These figures show a strong and expanding festival and with up to 500 volunteers helping to stage this event it has huge community involvement.
