Description
The small town of Goomeri celebrates the humble pumpkin with a festival annually on the last Sunday in May. The 14th annual festival will be held on Sunday 30 May 2010. Visitors compete for prize money in the highlight of the festival, the Great Australian Pumpkin Roll, by rolling pumpkins down Policeman's Hill, usually creating a splattered mess. A lucky spot of AUD1000 is a great incentive to join in this whacky event.
There are other pumpkin novelty competitions, including Giant Pumpkins, Decorated Pumpkins, Pumpkin Bowls, Pumpkin Pull and even a Pumpkin Pageant, where people dress up in their best pumpkin costume.
The day is fun filled with over 200 market stalls, demonstrations, displays, live entertainment, a street parade and of course, delicious pumpkin food. Entry to the festival is free. A dinner dance will be held on Saturday in the Hall of Memory.
