Description
Browns Mart, located in the centre of Darwin, is on the national heritage list, preserved as a place of interest. First built in 1885 as an emporium and market, it later housed a number of operations including a mining exchange, bank premises, auction rooms, steamship booking office, naval depot, Crown Law office and Police Headquarters. Just 12 years after construction it was badly damaged by a cyclone and was fully restored to its original condition.
